Differences Between 3M LiteCom BRS and FRS Headset

On May 31, 2020, 3M announced they are discontinuing the 3M Peltor LiteCom BRS Headsets, effective June 1, 2020.  The LiteCom BRS Headset has now been replaced with the LiteComf FRS Headset. The new headset offers more channels.

The FRS is an advanced hearing protector equipped with built-in analog two-way radio communication and programmed to operate on all 22 FRS channels. The new model was designed around the needs of industrial, manufacturing, and construction personnel.

What are the differences between the BRS and FRS headsets?

The FRS and the BRS are equipped with essentially identical features. The only difference between the two are the pre-programmed channels/frequencies – the FRS has 22 UHF FRS frequencies, as opposed to the 8 UHF BRS frequencies for the BRS headset.

Does the FRS Support Backwards Compatibility with the BRS?

No. The BRS and the FRS use different two-way frequencies, so the headsets are not backwards compatible and will not communicate with each other.

What Headset is Recommended if I do Require Backwards Compatibility with the BRS?

If you want to upgrade but still require backwards compatibility with the BRS, the recommended upgrade is the 3M Peltor LiteCom Plus Headset. The Plus headset has the 8 BRS frequencies with 23-30 channels, making it backwards compatible.
